Owen County couldn’t battle back from behind as visiting Carroll County pulled away to win 11-5 in a 31st District softball game on Thursday, April 20.
Carroll County pitcher Madi Groves claimed the win in the circle. Groves limited Owen County batters and tallied two strikeouts.
Owen County pitcher Hannah Howard suffered the loss in the circle. Howard allowed nine earned runs while recording three strikeouts over seven innings.
Groves (three hits, one RBI), Mallory Noble (three hits), Brooklyn Rose (two hits, six RBIs), Taylor Butler (two hits, three RBIs), Alyssa Dermon (one hit), Brinley Couch (one hit) and Courtney Strickland (one RBI) each delivered at the plate for visiting Carroll County. Rose, who drove in six runs, belted a grand slam and doubled. Along with Rose, Groves, Butler and Dermon doubled.
Owen County scored five runs on 10 hits. Chelsea Glacken (two hits, one RBI), Abigayle Dempsey (two hits), Shaylee Glacken (one hit, one RBI), Kallista Ogden (one hit, one RBI), Rachel Howard (one hit, one RBI), Alli Settles (one hit), Lilly Baumann (one hit) and Andi Baumann (one hit) each contributed at the plate for Owen County in the district game. Providing an extra-base hit for Owen County, Kallista Ogden doubled.
Owen County and Carroll County aren’t scheduled to meet again in the 2023 high school softball regular season.
