Friday, April 21 the Grant County track team hosted the Friday Night Lights meet sponsored by Dorning Supply Company. While raising funds for the McHolland family, Grant also celebrated their seniors Audrey Shelton and Calvin Goebel.
After a brief weather delay the meet continued as the competitors faced off in on-and-off rain. With over 13 schools present at the competition the Braves faced hard competition.
One of Grant’s strongest categories was boys hurdles. Junior Gavin Scroggins took third in 110m hurdles and first in 300m hurdles for the Braves. Ellee Lane and Lexi Day took fourth, followed closely by Johannah Lane and Owen Leap, who took fifth in the 2x50m unified relay.
Leap and Johannah Lane placed second in the unified long jump with Ellee Lane and Goebel placing fourth. Also representing Grant was Jasmine Swartz, who took fourth in the girls 400m dash and 300m hurdle. Finally, sophomore Lexi Day finished fifth in the girl’s long jump
Not present at the meet were senior Audrey Shelton and sophomore, Lincoln Herald who competed away at the University of Louisville in Eastern Relays. Both runners qualified for the competition in which they faced off against elite competitors from several different states.
Shelton had a personal best, placing 20th in the girls 3200m run, breaking her school record with a time of 11:11.99. Also, during the girls mile, Shelton earned another personal and school record with a mile time of 5:14.50 placing her 20th out of 82.
Herald competed in the boys 3200m and mile run, taking 25th and 18th respectively.
